Ajax continues its high flight in UEFA Champions League having already defeated top giants like Real Madrid and Juventus in the knockout stages. Last night (May 1), the first leg of semifinals was played between Ajax and Tottenham Hotspurs at White Heart Lane where the Dutch club clinched a vital 1 away goal lead against the Spurs.
The goal came in quite early at the 15th minute by 22-year old Van De Beek, who helped the team secure a safe position throughout the otherwise close match.
“For the first 30 minutes we played really good and after that Tottenham changed something tactically which created problems for us, but I think 1-0 is okay and next week we have to finish it at home,” said Van De Beek who was also awarded man of the match for the night.
Tottenham took a huge blow to their defense as Jan Vertonghen suffered a head injury in the 30th minute, however they did not concede anymore goals. Given the last night’s close match, it would be interesting to see on May 9 if Ajax continues to shine and qualify for the finals or Tottenham is able to turn the tables in their favor.
