The first ODI between Pakistan and England was left barely halfway due to the heavy rain showers at Oval on Wednesday. The match was first decided to be of a 47 overs each side which was then reduced to 41 seeing the weather, however ultimately it was England who hardly finished 19 overs and the match came at halt.
At the end of the match, Pakistan stood at 80-2, with Imam ul Haq at not out at 42 and Harris Sohail at 14. The two wickets for England came from Jofra Archer and Liam Plunkett.
Archer who has been recently pushing his luck (and skills) to secure a spot in the World Cup 2019 squad for the English side, was able to prove his mettle once again. The fast bowler started off with a splendid maiden over and soon knocked Fakhar Zaman’s wicket down. In the four overs he bowled, Archer conceded merely six runs.
Following Fakhar, it was Babar Azam who returned to the pavilion after scoring 16 runs. The next match between the two sides will be played on Saturday, in Southampton.
