To take the international diplomacy to a different level this time, International Cricket Council (ICC) is organizing an Inter-Parliamentary Cricket Tournament among the parliamentarians of the eight teams participating in the World Cup 2019. A week-long training camp for this purpose has been organized by Pakistan Cricket Board to prepare the Pakistani parliamentarians for the upcoming tournament in July.
Set up at Shalimar Cricket Ground, the camp was inaugurated by Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser yesterday by batting on a ball by the Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri.
The training camp will hold friendly matches between the parliamentarians and provincial assemblies, Azad Kashmir assembly and the legislatures from Gilgit Baltistan. A total of 47 MNAs and MPAs under the age of 45 will participate in the trials/training camp and on the basis of performance a balanced team will be formed which will then participate in the tournament in England scheduled to held from July 8 to 15.
While talking to a leading daily, the speaker shared that the participating parliamentarians will be funding their trip to themselves and during their stay for the tournament they will promote sports diplomacy.
