Spectators witnessed the greatness of Messi as his brace helped Barcelona seal a 3-0 victory at Camp Nou against Liverpool and put them in a comfortable position to qualify for the final to be held at Madrid.
Liverpool started off confidently and came close to scoring an earlier goal but it was just not their night and despite registering more goals on target than Barcelona, they failed to take home an away goal advantage.
The opening goal came from Luis Suarez in the 26th minute when Jordi Alba found him through a sublime pass in the penalty area for the Uruguayan to place it in the back of the net. Even after the first goal it seemed like anybody’s match as Liverpool was continuously knocking at Barcelona’s defense yet Barcelona went back to the dugout with a goal lead at half time.
2nd half started with the same energy as the first one with both teams playing box-box game and just when it seemed Liverpool was getting closer and closer to equalize, Ter Stegen kept the ball well making a couple of great saves. Barcelona’s second goal came in the 75th minute when Suarez’s shot deflected back from the bar and landed at Messi’s feet and he just had to tap it in for goal. That was Messi’s 599th goal for the club and he was not done for the night. His 600th goal was the icing on the cake when in 82nd minute he scored the free kick from 36 yards out in the top right corner of the net.
Liverpool got their biggest chance in the 84th minute when the ball landed to Salah’s feet from Barcelona’s defender but he hit the post and that summed up their luck at Camp Nou.
Barcelona will now travel to Anfield on 8th May and Liverpool has a huge almost impossible task ahead of them to overcome a 3 goal deficit.
