England who were pushed in the points table earlier last week, made a resounding come back in the World Cup 2019 after a ‘controversial’ win against India and a massive one against New Zealand today at Chester-Le-Street.
What started off as a presumably easy win for Kiwis – who have been trying hard to break the chain of defeats – soon turned into a favorable match for the hosts. English side, on the back of Jonny Bairstow’s tremendous innings of 106, was able to achieve nearly 200 at 30 overs.
Bairstow and Jason Roy together sailed the team all along with their solid partnership for the third time, and the innings ended on a massive 305 for the Kiwis to attain. New Zealand’s comeback was beyond hopeful as the whole team returned to pavilion on 186 runs, five overs shy of the total 50.
On the back of his astounding performance and second consecutive century – in addition to his two more in the World Cup 2019 – Bairstow was rightfully awarded ‘Man of the Match’. And as England prepares to battle against India or Australia in semi-finals, the English side has once again proved its mettle in the tournament.
