After their astounding performance on field that helped them secured seven out of nine games in the group stages, India has emerged as the favorite team of bookies to become ICC World Cup 2019 champion. It is expected that owing to India’s strongest batting line and experienced bowlers, the team can pull it off at Old Trafford today against New Zealand and smoothly sail towards victory in the final on July 14 as well.
Leading bookie sites like Ladbrokes and Betway have predicted India to be the most favorite amongst top four of ICC and New Zealand to be the least favorite – a reflection of the points table at the moment.
The bookies have estimated the odds of an absolute win by India at 13/8, followed by England 15/8, Australia 11/4 and New Zealand 8/1.
In lay man terms, the odds are translated like this: If you bet one rupee on India, the bookie is willing to multiply it by 13/8.
That means that a bet of Rs100,000 could translate as Rs.262,500 (source business standard).
Betway has estimated India’s value at £2.8. This means that every pound you bet on India, you get £2.8 in return.
Similarly, Indian batsman Rohit Sharma who has hit five impressive centuries throughout the World Cup 2019 and is only shy of 27 runs to become the highest scorer in a single world cup, is predicted to be the best batsman of the tournament. The bookies, assuming that Rohit will be the highest run-getter in this tournament, have a bet rate of 8/13 (Ladbrokes) on the Indian opener.
Following suit of Rohit are Australia’s David Warner (11/8) and England’s Joe Root (20/1). Indian captain Indian Captain Virat Kohli is also amongst the top 5 batsmen at a bet rate of 33/1.
