Former test batsman Ijaz Ahmed has risen as the topper after a rigorous recruitment process for the search of Pakistan U-19’s head coach position. The former assistant coach of Pakistan men’s side will take charge of the young team from next month.
“I am thankful to the PCB for trusting me with the important responsibility of grooming and nurturing the future stars of Pakistan cricket. Junior cricket is a lifeline for any cricketing nation,” said Ijaz while talking to a leading daily.
Earlier Ijaz has served as head coach of Pakistan A and under-19s since 2009. The aced cricketer has also been assistant coach of Pakistan’s national team in 2010.
It is expected that as the new head coach of U-19, Ijaz’s first encounter would be the eight-nation T20 tournament in Kenya next month. Following that, the former batsman will serve on his position for three years.
