Pakistan had a massive target of 374 to chase and at one point it seemed doable, courtesy of brilliant batting by opener Fakhar Zaman who shone big with his significant innings of 138 today at Southampton.
Regardless of Fakhar’s magnificent century, coupled with Asif Ali’s half century; Pakistan’s luck fell short and the team could manage to achieve a total of 362/7 at the end of 50 overs.
“I’m very proud of the team that they got so close to the target,” said captain Sarfaraz Ahmed at the match end.
England’s victory came on the back a magnificent 110 off 55 balls by Jos Butler. Jos eighth ODI century also became the 2nd fastest by England.
A half century from Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy’s 87, along with captain Eoin Morgan’s 71 off 48 balls also played a pivotal role in the triumph of English side.
